Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas Radi Allahu ‘Anhu narrates that, “Allah azza wajal has made five rivers flow from Jannah (on earth). They are the Seehun, Jeehun, the Tigris, the Euphrates and the Nile. All three rivers come from one source. Allah azza wajal has kept a stream hidden in a mountain in Jannah as a trust and has released this as rivers on earth. Through these rivers, the people on earth are able to enjoy its benefits. It is said that when the Yajooj Majooj are released, Allah azza wajal will send Jibra’eel Ameen to earth and he hill take away six things from this earth. They will be the Qur’an, all knowledge, Hajre Aswad, Maqaam-e-Ebrahim, the Tabut of Nabi Moosa and the five rivers mentioned. Therefore, religion and knowledge would no longer remain on earth and people will no longer have the barakah of these things.” (Tafseer Saawi, 3/93)

 

In Surah Al Mo’minun (23), verse 18, the Qur’an declares:

 

وَ اَنۡزَلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَآءِ مَآءًۢ بِقَدَرٍ فَاَسْکَنّٰہُ فِی الْاَرْضِ ٭ۖ وَ اِنَّا عَلٰی ذَہَابٍۭ بِہٖ لَقٰدِرُوۡنَ ﴿ۚ۱۸﴾

 

“And We sent down water from the heaven according to an estimate, then caused it to stay in the earth; and undoubtedly, We have the power to take it away.”

 

The water mentioned in this verse indicates to the five rivers which we have mentioned. It will be returned to its original source and no one will have the power to stop this. Therefore, people should show gratitude to Allah azza wajal for this Divine Bounty and make sure that they do not waste the Bounties of Allah azza wajal. We should also continue to have fear that these Divine Bounties are not taken away from us.
