Hadrat Sayyiduna Shaqeeq bin Ebrahim – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:

One day, during the last part of the night, I met the eminent Saint, Hadrat Sayyiduna Ebrahim bin Adham – may Allah be pleased with him – near the birth place of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. He was sitting on one corner and also weeping. I approached him and sat next to him. I asked him, “O Abu Ishaq! Is everything all right, why are you weeping?” I asked him two or three times.

He replied, “O Shaqeeq! If I reveal the reason, you must keep it to yourself and do not reveal this to people.”

I then told him that he should not worry about this.

He then explained, “My Nafs had the desire to eat meat prepared with vinegar gravy for a very long time. However, for nearly thirty years, I have prohibited this for myself and my Nafs. Tonight, as I dozed off I saw a young man standing in front of me with a green plate of the same food. He then placed this plate in front of me and said, ‘O Ebrahim! Please eat this food.’ I replied, ‘That which I have left aside for the Divine Pleasure of Allah Almighty, I can never eat.’

He said, ‘If this has not been sent by Allah Almighty then you may not eat. But this is also from Allah Almighty. Why do you refuse to eat it?’

I began to weep and the young man kept insisting that I eat the food.

I said, “We have been instructed to never eat something until and unless we do not know where it comes from.”

The young man then presented this food to me and said his instructions were, “O Khidr! Take this food to Ebrahim bin Adham and feed him this food. Almighty Allah has blessed him with Divine Grace and he has displayed immense patience for the sake of Almighty Allah from consuming this specific dish. O Ebrahim! I also heard the Angels declare, ‘Who is that person who is given sustenance and he refuses to take it and who is that person who asks and he is not given.’

I said to the young man that if this is from Almighty Allah then I will not be able to refuse it.

I reached out to the food and suddenly another young man appeared in front. He said to the first person, “O Khidr! Please feed him yourself with your blessed hands.”

Hadrat Khidr – peace be upon him – then fed me with his own hands until my hunger was satisfied and only then my eyes opened. Yet, until now, I can still feel the sweetness and taste of this food on my tongue.

Hadrat Sayyiduna Shaqeeq – may Allah be pleased with him – further narrates, “When I heard this narration, I then kissed his blessed hands and also made Du’a using his Wasilah in the Divine Court of Almighty Allah”. (Uyunul Hikaayah)
