Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah Radi Allah ‘Anhu narrates that the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam has stated that, “Allah azza wajal had made one day of fasting Fard upon the Bani Isra’eel in the course of the entire year. It was also on the Yaum-e-‘Aashurah. In other words, the tenth day of Muharram. Therefore, you should also fast on this day and spend on your family.”
In the “Shuhubul Imaan” it is mentioned that, “He who increases in spending openly and generously for his family on this day, Allah azza wajal will increase his sustenance for the entire year.” (Shuhubul Imaan. 3/366)
- On this day, the Allah azza wajal pardoned Nabi Adam Alayhis Salaam and give him the title and position of Safee’yullah.
- On this day, Nabi Idris Alayhis Salaam was elevated to a most prominent state.
- On this day, Nabi Nuh Alayhis Salaam, was removed from the ship after the storm.
- On this day, the fire prepared for Nabi Ebrahim Alayhis Salaam became cool and means of safety for him.
- On this day, the Taurah was revealed to Nabi Moosa Alayhis Salaam.
- On this day, Nabi Yusuf Alayhis Salaam was freed from prison.
- On this say, vision and sight returned to Nabi Yaqub Alayhis Salaam.
- On this day, the trial and test upon Nabi Ayyub Alayhis Salaam was lifted.
- On this day, the sea was split open for Nabi Moosa Alayhis Salaam and the forces of Pharaoh were destroyed.
- On this day, the mistake of Nabi Daud Alayhis Salaam was pardoned.
- On this day, Nabi Sulayman Alayhis Salaam was blessed with a mighty kingdom.
- On this day, the sins of all those in the past and present among his Ummah were pardoned because of the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam.
- This is the day on which the Allah azza wajal created the world.
- This is the day on which the first rain fell from the sky.
- The first Divine Blessing was also received on this day.
- A person who stays awake on this night in worship it is as if he has performed Ibadah equal to those in the seven heavens.
- A person who reads four rak’ah of Salaah in this night wherein he reads Surah Fatiha once and Surah Ahad fifty one times, Allah azza wajal in His Infinite Mercy would pardon fifty years of that persons sins.
- A person who gives water to anyone on this day, he will be given such water on the Day of Judgement that he will not feel thirst ever again. He will walk as if he has never ever committed a sin.
19 On this say Nabi ‘Isa Alayhis Salaam was lifted towards the heavens.
- If one gives charity on this day, it will be as if one has never ever refused to help a beggar his entire life.
- A person who makes the complete Ghusal on this day, the only thing that he will experience is death and no other illness.
- A person who passes his hand over an orphan on this day and also shows kindness to an orphan on this day, it is as if he has shown kindness to all the orphans in the whole of mankind.
- A person who visits a sick person on this day, it is as if he has visited all the sick people in the whole of mankind.
- On this day, the Divine Throne, the Divine Tablet (Lahw Mahfuz) and the Divine Pen were created.
- On this day, Jibraeel Ameen Alayhis Salaam was created.
- On this day, the Day of Qiyamah will occur.

It must be remembered that this narration has been mentioned by ibn Jouzi, Allama Jalaaludeen Suyutwi Radi Allah ‘Anhu and also Sheikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlwi Radi Allah ‘Anhu in the subject of Moud’aat or doubtful. (Al Moudo’aat, 2/200; Ma Thabata bis Sunnah, pg. 24)
However, a very important point also needs to be remembered is that Allama Jalaaludeen Suyutwi Radi Allah ‘Anhu has also admitted that the narrators of this Hadith Shareef are authentic and became authentic when later narrators appeared to make the Sanad of this Hadith Shareef more powerful and concrete.
