In the excellence of the Durood and Salaam, there is a very interesting incident which took place.

It is said that that there was once a lady whose son was considered a very great sinner. She used to warn him against evil and transgression but it was like water on a duck’s back. He never listened to a word she said. Finally, his time came to leave this world and he died in this same state while committing sin and transgression. Obviously, his mother was extremely distraught thinking that her son has died without making Taubah. She also had the wish to see her son in a dream so she could be able to look at what state he was in.

One day, she saw her son in extreme punishment and obviously, this made her even more distraught and sad.

The second time when she saw her son, she noticed that he was looking happy and cheerful and quite relaxed. She asked him, “O my son! When I saw you first, you were in great punishment, what had transformed this into such a happy state?”

He began to explain, “O beloved mother! Once a very sinful person walked through the cemetery. When he looked at the graves around him and that people would die and then again come back to life, he was extremely pained and sad. He then began to make sincere Taubah and also promised Allah Almighty that he will never return to sin and transgression.

“When the Angels saw this, they were also pleased and mentioned among themselves that this person had made sincere Taubah and that he should be pardoned for all his sins. In other words, to create peace between himself and his Creator. Listening to the humble request of the Angels, Allah Almighty then pardoned this person. Thereafter, this person began to read whatever Qur’an he knew and also began to recite Durood Shareef upon the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. He actually recited Durood Shareef twenty times and conveyed the reward of all of this to us who were buried in the cemetery. When this reward was distributed among us, it was obvious that I also received a portion of this reward and through this, I was pardoned by Allah Almighty and I have attained that status in which you see me today. O my beloved mother! Bear in mind that reciting Durood Shareef is indeed a most noble deed and something which creates Nur in the hearts of people and means of Divine Grace in both worlds.” (Ar Roaud Al Faa’iq)
