Hadrat Sayyiduna Ubay bin Ka’ab Haarithi – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:
“Once I went out to look for my lost camel. I decided to fill my container with milk (with the intention of being able to survive in the wild). However, after a few minutes, I thought to myself, ‘I have not done something which is proper. I have filled the entire container with milk and not with water so that I can make Wudu when the time of Salaah arrives. This was certainly an unjust act on my path’. When this thought appeared in my mind, I immediately emptied the container of milk and filled the container with water.
“I then started to search for my camel. However, such was the Divine Blessing of Allah Almighty that as I continued to travel, whenever I wanted to drink something, the container which contained water turned into milk and the container which contained water remained the same. In this manner, I survived for three days in the wild. As I neared a river, I heard a Voice say to me, ‘O Abu Ka’ab, is roasted meat better or this milk. Without doubt, Allah Almighty is the Divine Creator who protects people against starvation and thirst.’
“When I returned to my people, I narrated to them what had happened on the journey. However, the leader of the Bani Qanaan, who was skeptical, mentioned to me, ‘It is my opinion what whatever you are saying should only be kept like that and nothing else.’ I also mentioned that the Allah Almighty knows best.
“I then returned home. In the morning, I heard someone knocking on the door and when I came outside, I noticed that it was the leader of the Bani Qanaan, namely Ali bin Haarith. When I saw him, I mentioned that he had caused inconvenience to himself by coming and he should have called me instead. However, he said, ‘It is only right that I should visit you personally. Listen last night while I was sleeping, I heard someone say to me in my dream, ‘You are the person who has tried to belie the person who has mentioned about the Divine Gifts and Grace of Allah Almighty.’ When I heard this, I made a promise to myself that I would never belie the Divine Grace of Allah Almighty ever again or have any doubt in this in future.” (Uyunul Hikaayah)
