Hadrat Sayyiduna Zun Nun Misri – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:

 

One day I was standing on the banks of the river Nile washing my clothes when I saw a very large scorpion which was coming in my direction. I then made Du’a to Allah Almighty to protect me from the danger of this animal. This scorpion continued to come forward until it reached the bank of the river. Suddenly a large frog also appeared from the water and when it jumped on the bank of the river, this scorpion sat on its back. I continued to follow both animals to see where they were going. They reached an area which was full of trees.

 

I noticed that there was a young man sleeping under one of the trees and he was completely drunk. When I saw this, I read the La Hawla and realised that when this scorpion reaches this young, he would surely kill him. I then stood near this person, but suddenly, I saw a large snake which was also approaching this young man while he was asleep. The snake was also ready to bite the young man when the scorpion suddenly attacked this snake. The scorpion jumped on the head of this snake and did not leave it until it had killed the snake. The scorpion then returned from where it came and I also noticed that the frog was still waiting to take it back. It again jumped on the back of the frog and they continued on their journey while I kept looking at them.

 

I then approached the young man and began to say: “O young man awake. There is no doubt that the Fiend who takes of care of you and protects you from the darkness of the night (never sleeps). How can the Divine Grace of that Being be unaware of your state when all bounties come from Him?”

 

When the young man awoke, I related the entire incident to him. He made sincere Taubah and removed his classy clothing and adorned himself with the clothing of Faqeers. He continued to live in this fashion until his death. May Allah Almighty bestow His Divine Grace upon him. Ameen. (Nawaadir Al Qalyubi)
