On the occasion of Hujjatul Wida when the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had shaved his blessed head, he called Hadrat Sayyiduna Mu’ammar bin Abdullah – may Allah be pleased with him – and asked him, “O Mu’ammar! Do you have a shaving blade?” He replied that indeed he did have one. The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him –then informed him, “Take the Name of Allah Almighty and shave my head.”

Hadrat Sayyiduna Mu’ammar bin Abdullah – may Allah be pleased with him – then started from the right side and while he was doing this, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – smiled and said to him, “You do not see that the Holy Prophet of Allah has placed his head in front of you and you have a blade in your hand?”

Hadrat Sayyiduna Mu’ammar – may Allah be pleased with him – replied, “O Prophet of Allah Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him!  I swear in the Name of Allah Almighty shaving your blessed head is indeed a great blessing.” (Majma’uz Zawaa’id, Musnad Imam Ahmed, Al Mo’jam Al Kabeer by Imam Tabarani)

When the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had shaven half of his blessed head, he turned to the blessed Ashaab and informed them that they could distribute this blessed hair among themselves.

When they heard this command, they rushed towards the Holy Prophet – may Allah be pleased with him. Every one of them had the ardent wish that they are able to acquire a piece of this blessed hair. Every one of them received a portion of this hair and some even received only a single thread of hair.

Even though Islam is not a religion based on idol worship or personality worship, yet, it has given Muslims clear command to display immense respect and reverence for the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and everything associated with him. This is that blessed Prophet of Allah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – who has taken us out from the pit of darkness into the light of guidance. This is that beloved Prophet of Allah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him –whose love and reverence has been considered as Love and Reverence for Allah Almighty.

In Surah Ale Imran, (31), it is clearly mentioned that those who claim to love Allah Almighty, they should actually obey and follow the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and in this manner, they would also become the beloved slaves of Allah Almighty. The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – has also made it clear that no one can become a true believer until and unless he does not love the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – more than his parents, his children and all of mankind. (Bukhari Shareef and Muslim Shareef)

The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then asked Hadrat Sayyiduna Mu’ammar – may Allah be pleased with him – to then shave the other part of his blessed head. This was then completed. The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – asked, “Where is Abu Talha Ansari?”

The blessed companion then presented himself in front of the Holy Prophet – may Allah be pleased with him. The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then said to him, “Distribute this among the people.” (Sahih Muslim Shareef)

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Talha Ansari – may Allah be pleased with him – then began to weep and he declared, “The sweet fragrance and taste of such splendour fell on me so suddenly, that in a fit of immense joy and happiness, my eyes were filled with tears.”

The actual name of this blessed companion is Hadrat Sayyiduna Zaid bin Sahl – may Allah be pleased with him. In Madina Shareef, he was made the religious brother of Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah – may Allah be pleased with him. During the Battle of Uhud, in trying to protect the Holy Prophet – may Allah be pleased with him – he sustained nearly 35 injuries and wounds.

He is also the husband of the famous Sahaabiyah, Sayyidah Umme Sulaim – may Allah be pleased with her – who is the mother of the famous companion, Hadrat Sayyiduna Aanis bin Maalik – may Allah be pleased with him. Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Talha – may Allah be pleased with him – passed away in either 31 A.H. or 34 A.H. at the age of seventy. (Usdul Ghaabah, Vol. 6)

What can be said further about the greatness and stature of the blessed Ashaab? Their entire lives revolved around serving and protecting the dignity of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. We may have millions of Muslims until the Day of Judgement, but none of them will be known as the community of the blessed Ashaab. You may sacrifice your entire wealth, your entire family, your entire country but you will still never be known as the blessed companion or Sahabi of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. This is the reason that he has mentioned that the Ashaab are like the stars, whoever you follow, you will be guided. Imagine the state of the cursed Shia sect who consider it a form of “Ibadah” to curse the blessed Ashaab? On the Day of Judgement, it will indeed be a joy to see their annihilation and destruction.
