Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates: “We were once sitting in the blessed company of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and I noticed that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – was smiling.

 

Someone then asked, ‘O Prophet of Allah! Why are you smiling?’

 

He replied, ‘There were two people from my Ummah who were presented in front of Allah Almighty to give account. One of them said, ‘O Allah this person had oppressed me, therefore, please take revenge on him on my behalf.’

 

Allah Almighty will then say to the other, ‘Give your brother his rights.’

 

He will reply, ‘My good deeds are been depleted.’

 

The aggrieved person will then say, ‘O Allah! Please place the burden of my sins on him.’

 

When he mentioned these words, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – also wept and said, ‘This would indeed be a day of great need’.

 

Allah Almighty will then ask the aggrieved person, ‘Look above and look at Jannah.’

 

This person will see strange and wonderful sights. He will then ask Allah Almighty who this belongs to. Allah Almighty will declare that this belongs to him who can pay for it.

 

He will then ask as to who would be able to fulfil its payment. Allah Almighty will reveal to him, ‘You can also fulfil its payment.’

 

He will then ask as to how he would be able to do so.

 

Allah Almighty will declare, ‘By forgiving your brother.’

 

He will then declare, “O my Lord! I have pardoned him.’

 

Finally, Allah Almighty will Declare, ‘Take the hand of your brother and enter Jannah.’”

 

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then advised, “Fear Allah and create peace between each other because the Allah Almighty will make peace between Muslims on the Day of Judgement.” (Ibn Abid Dunya in Kitaab Husne Zann and Imam Qurtabi in At Tazkirah)
