The name of the doctor was Esa Marzuqi. He was a Christian. He used to live in Syria and work in one of the hospitals in Damascus.

 

Suddenly, Esa Marzuqi became ill and was admitted to hospital. After going through a thorough examination, it was found that he was suffering from cancer. His friends who were also doctors started to treat him. As a matter of fact, there was an entire team of doctors who began treating him.

 

They had his results in front of them and they also saw that his cancer was increasing on a daily basis. According to the medical board, this person was merely a guest in this world for a few days.

 

Esa Marzuqi was also very young and even though he had not yet married, he was engaged. The family of the girl also advised her to break the engagement because they could see that this person was very ill. But she refused to break the engagement.

 

During this period, Esa Marzuqi was also reading a book. He came across the Hadith Shareef of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – in which the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had stated that, “Cure your sick with (giving) charity”.

 

One day, while Esa Marzuqi was sitting in hospital, he thought about this Hadith Shareef and began to ponder on these words. He also questioned whether this Hadith Shareef was true or not. He also came to the conclusion that if this Hadith Shareef was true, then he had to practise on the words of the Hadith Shareef. Esa Marzuqi realised that he had taken many types of medication and nothing seemed to be working.

 

Esa Marzuqi also knew that there was a certain family who had lost their bread winner and they were living in very hard circumstances. While he was in hospital, these people had also spent their last few coins. When Esa Marzuqi heard about this, he sent whatever little money he had to this family. He also made it clear that the reason he was spending this money was to cure his cancer and that the people who receive this money should also make Du’a for him.

 

Suddenly, his illness began to decrease day by day. The various doctors on the medical board had a meeting to look at his recent medical chart and they were shocked to see that not only his cancer was decreasing, but it was also beginning to disappear. When they questioned him about this miracle, Esa Marzuqi informed them that he had practised on the words of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and because of this, his health was also improving.

 

Esa Marzuqi also made it clear that even though one has to seek medical help, but if it was combined with the advice of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – a person could achieve miracles. Such is the living miracle of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – that even his blessed words are a cure for diseases which even ordinary doctors cannot cure.
