Imam Bahiqi – may Allah have mercy on him – has recorded in the “Dalaa’il” that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – once invited a person to accept Islam. However, this person informed Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – that he would never accept Islam until and unless his daughter who was dead be brought back to life.
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then asked him to show him the grave. He then showed Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – the grave and in another report it is mentioned that he said he had placed his daughter in a valley and Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – asked him to show him this valley.
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then called out to this girl. When he did so, she replied, “labbaik wa sa’adaik” (I am present and obedient). Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then asked her, “Do you wish to come back to the earth?” She replied, “No! By Allah! I have found the Hereafter better than the world.”
In another report, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – mentioned to her, “Your parents have brought faith, and if you wish, you can also be returned.” However, she replied, “I have no need for parents. I have found my Creator better and even more Merciful.”
This Hadith Shareef also proves that even the children of Mushriks, if they die before they become mature or sensible, they are not punished. In like manner, the story of the children of Hadrat Sayyiduna Jabir – may Allah be pleased with him – is also quite famous. It is mentioned that once when Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – entered his house as a guest, he slaughtered a goat. When the elder son saw this, he also placed his younger brother on the floor and also slaughtered him. When his mother saw this and ran towards him, he fell off the roof and also passed away. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – also brought both of them back to life. This story is fully explained in the treatise “Shawaa hidun Nubuwah.”
In like manner, there is also a report that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – also brought his own parents back to life. It is said that they then recited the Kalimah of Islam. However, the scholars of Hadith question the validity of this Hadith, however some latter day ‘Ulama have proven its authenticity. (At the same, the reason that the ‘Ulama contradict this report is because they say that his parents were already believers, hence there was no need to bring them back to life.)
Some ‘Ulama also explain that they passed away in the Deen of Fitrat. Some ‘Ulama even say that to even imagine that the blessed parents of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – were not Muslims or believers certainly endangers the Imaan of a person. May Allah Almighty protect us from this blasphemy. Ameen.
Hadrat Sayyiduna Anas – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that there was once a young man from the Ansaar who had passed away. He also had a very old mother who was also blind. The people then covered the face of this young person with a shawl and people began to sympathise with the old lady. She asked, “Has my son passed away?” The people replied that he had passed away.
She then pleaded, “O Allah! You are full aware that we have migrated towards You and Your Prophet with the hope that You would help and assist us. And that You will help us in all difficulty and tribulation. O Allah! Please do not let me enter this difficulty.”
(It is said that), “We had not even moved away from there; however when we moved away the shawl from the person’s face we found him alive. He also joined us for food.”
This has been recorded by Ibn Adi, Ibn Abid Dunya, Imam Bahiqi and Imam Abu Naeem – may Allah be pleased with him. This is the Barakah achieved because this old lady had also pleaded in the blessed court of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.
