It is reported that once the famous King, Nusher-wan, left his palace on a hunting expedition. However, very soon, Nusher-wan became separated from his other companions.
During this time, he became extremely thirsty and saw a small piece of plot on which there was a house. Nusher-wan then approached this house and asked for some water. A few minutes later, a female appeared and she immediately recognized who was at the door. Without saying a word, she went inside and filled some water in a glass. She also squeezed some sugar cane juice in this glass. She only needed one small piece of sugar cane to complete this task. She also placed a few small pebbles in this water as well.
When she handed this glass to the King, he noticed the small pieces of pebbles in the water and decided to drink this water as slowly as possible. Nusher-wan then said, “This would have been even more delicious if there were no pebbles inside the water.”
However, the female replied that she had done this deliberately. When he asked her the reason for this, she replied that since the King was extremely thirsty and he had drunk this water quickly, then perhaps he could have harmed himself.
The King was extremely surprised at the intelligence of this female. He then asked her how many pieces of sugar cane she had placed in this glass of water. She said that she had only squeezed a single piece of sugar cane in this water. The King was surprised.
When he returned to his palace he asked for the report on how much of tax was received from a certain piece of land. When he saw the amount, he realized that this was very little and decided that very soon, he should increase the tax on this land.
A little while later, the King returned to this piece of land and again asked for some water. The same female appeared and after recognizing who it was, she went inside to bring some water. However, this time the female took very long to bring the water. The King was extremely surprised by this and asked her the reason for this. She replied, “There was not enough sugar cane juice which could be extracted from one single piece of sugar cane, hence, I had to squeeze three pieces of sugar cane.”
The King asked her the reason for this and she replied, “The reason is that the leader of this place has changed his intention. I have also heard that when the intention of a leader changes about a certain nation, then the Barakah disappears and goodness also decreases.”
When the King heard this, he started to laugh and also changed his mind about increasing the taxes on this land. It is reported that he finally married this female because he was highly impressed by her intelligence and her clear thinking. (Al Qalyubi)
