It is mentioned that Hadrat Sayyiduna Rabee bin Haraash and Hadrat Sayyiduna Rabee’ah bin Haraash – may Allah be pleased with them – were considered as eminent Muhadditheen of their era. They were among the famous Taba’een of their period as well. They made a promise among themselves that they will never ever laugh in their lives until and unless they were not certain they will enter Jannah. Such was their lives that they never laughed in their entire life. However, such was the state of both these brothers that when they passed away, while people were making their Ghusal, they noticed that both brothers were smiling. (Tahzeeb at Tahzeeb, 30)
In like manner, Hadrat Sayyiduna ibn Asaakir – may Allah be pleased with him – reports that when the father of Abu Abdullah Jalaa passed away and when he was being given Ghusal, he began to smile. Obviously the people were greatly confused and they decided to call one of the local doctors to find out whether this Saint had really passed away. When the doctor arrived and he examined this saint, he made it clear to everyone that indeed this Saint had passed away. In spite of this, whenever anyone went near him to perform the Ghusal, he began to smile. Many people then refused to make the Ghusal because they became afraid. When everyone had refused to make the Ghusal of this Saint, the famous Saint of that period, namely Hadrat Sayyiduna Fadl bin Husain – may Allah be pleased with him – was called and he completed the Ghusal of this person and he also performed the Janazah Salaah. (Sharahus Sudur)
Hadrat Sayyiduna Rabee bin Haraarsh – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates, “When my brother Hadrat Sayyiduna Rabee’ah bin Haraarash – may Allah be pleased with him – passed away, all of us at home were present. Suddenly, he removed the cloth from his face and made Salaam to us. We also replied to his Salaam. We then asked him, “You are still able to speak after leaving this world?”
He replied, “Yes. Even though I have passed away, I was presented in the Divine Court of Allah Almighty and He has blessed me with Jannah and all the gifts of Jannah. I also urge you people not to delay with the Janazah because the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – is also waiting to perform my Janazah.” After saying these few words, he remained silent.
It is said that when this miracle was mentioned to Hadrat Sayyidah Ayesha – may Allah be pleased with her, she replied, “The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had also mentioned that there will be a person in my Ummah who will speak even after he has passed away.”
Muhaddith Abu Na’eem – may Allah be pleased with him – has mentioned that this is a Mash’ur Hadith. Imam Bahiqi – may Allah be pleased with him – has also mentioned this incident in the Dalaa’ilun Nubuwah and has also mentioned that there is no doubt in its authenticity. (Sharahus Sudur, 130)
Qadi Bahaa’udeen Sharfudeen Ghaasari – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates, “It is mentioned that Shaikh Ameenudeen Muhaddith – may Allah be pleased with him – passed away while on a journey. We then decided to bring his body to Cairo. However, at that time, the Governor of Egypt had placed a ban on any dead bodies entering the city. When we neared the entrance of the city, the great Shaikh then raised his one hand and his one finger towards the heavens. When the guards saw this, they assumed that the great Shaikh was ill and nothing else. When they saw this, they allowed people to bring the blessed body into the city limits.” (Sharahus Sudur, 86)
It is reported that when the English entered the city of Mansurah, the great Saint, Hadrat Sayyiduna Faqih bin Abdur Rahman Nuwairi – may Allah be pleased with him, read the verse of the Qur’an where it is mentioned that the martyrs who give their lives in the Path of Allah Almighty are not dead and through this he encouraged others to fight against the English. However, it was the destiny of the Muslims to lose this battle.
In the ensuing battle, Hadrat Sayyiduna Faqih bin Abdur Rahman – may Allah be pleased with him – was martyred. While his body lay on the ground, an English solider pierced his body with his lance and said, “You were the spokesperson of the Muslims and you were also the person who mentioned that the martyrs never die. Where is this declaration and claim that you made?”
When this person said this, Faqih Abdur Rahman Nuwairi – may Allah be pleased with him – picked up his head and declared, “Yes, yes, by the Lord of the Ka’ba, we are still alive.”
When the English soldier saw this, he was obviously shocked and surprised. He then kissed the blessed head of the Saint and picking up the body he took it into the city to be buried. He also had a small dome built over the grave. (Sharahus Sudur, 86)
The famous Muhaddith, Hadrat Sayyiduna Khalid bin Ma’daan – may Allah be pleased with him, was also famous for reading every day forty thousand times the Tasbeeh, “Subhaanallah” and also reading the Qur’an in abundance. After he had passed away and they placed him on the table to perform his Ghusal, his one finger continued to move. This was that finger which he used to use to move the beads on his Tasbeeh. (Sharahus Sudur, 91)
Hafiz Dhahabi – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that, “Ahmed bin Nasr was also a famous Muhaddith of his era. He was was embroiled in the fitnah of whether the Qur’an was a creation or not. He was punished by the rulers of the day and also spent time in jail. In fact, he was also martyred by the Khalifah Waasiq Billah. His head was then cut off and placed on a stick and a guard was placed near the head. However, during the night, the head used to turn towards the Qiblah on its own and it used to read Surah Yaseen with a beautiful voice. When this news began to spread in Baghdad Shareef, his nephew, Ebrahim bin Ismail, also went to investigate.”
He continues, “When I heard that the blessed head of my uncle was reciting Surah Yaseen, I also went to see. I also spent the night near the blessed head and I heard him reading a verse from the Qur’an myself. He was reciting the 2nd and 3rd verse of Surah Ankabut, which are:
“Do men fancy that they will be left just upon their declaring, ‘We believe’, and they will not be tested? We indeed tested those before them – so Allah will surely test the truthful, and will surely test the liars.”
