In one report it is mentioned that one day Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – was sitting in the Masjid with a few people. Suddenly a person walked past. He was asked whether he knew the person. He replied, “I have received news that a person was once given Unseen Knowledge of the blessed arrival of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. The name of the person is Sawaad bin Qaarib and he is a leader of his nation. I have not seen him and if he is still alive, then it could be this person.”

Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – then called this person and asked him whether he was Sawaad bin Qaarib.

He replied that yes, he was Sawaad bin Qaarib.

Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – then asked him to reveal how he had accepted Islam.

He said, “O Ameerul Mo’mineen! One night I was in between sleep and being awake when a Jinn appeared and made me fully awake by shaking my feet. It then informed me, ‘O Sawaad bin Qaarib! Awake and search and think if you have intelligence. Among the Luwi bin Ghaalib (family), a Prophet has arisen who calls people towards Allah Almighty and also invites them to worship Allah Almighty.’ The Jinn then recited a few couplets of poetry. It also appeared on the second night as well and said the same thing. It then appeared on a third night and said the same thing. It also read a few couplets of poetry. Suddenly, the love for Islam was created in my heart.

“In the morning, I packed my belongings and decided to travel to Mecca Shareef. However, in the morning, I heard that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had moved to Madina Shareef. I then decided to travel to Madina Shareef.

“When I arrived there, I asked the people where I could find Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. The people informed me that he was in the Masjid. When I appeared in front of him, he called me nearer. He continued to call me nearer to him until I sat directly opposite him. He then said to me, “Reveal the story of what you had seen”.

“I then revealed the entire incident and accepted Islam.

“Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and all the companions were extremely pleased when they heard the complete story and their happiness was clearly visible on their blessed faces.”

When Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – heard the whole story, he awoke and held the person to himself and mentioned, “I wanted to hear this story personally from you. Do you still receive dreams like this.”

He replied that since he had begun to read the Qur’an, he does not get dreams like this anymore.” (Manaaqib Al Ashar)
