It is mentioned that in the era of Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar Radi Allahu ‘Anhu there was a young man who was very pious and steadfast in his faith in Islam. As a matter of fact, even the great Muslim was also surprised at the piety of this young man and his steadfastness in making Ibadah.
This young man was in the habit of serving his old father after performing the ‘Isha Salaah in the Masjid. On his way back, there was an evil lady who always tried to mislead this young man, but he kept ignoring her. As a matter of fact, he used to always lower his gaze when walking past her house. One day, satan deceived him and he walked towards her front door and as he did so, he remembered the 201st verse of Surah Al Araf:
اِنَّ الَّذِیۡنَ اتَّقَوۡا اِذَا مَسَّہُمْ طٰٓئِفٌ مِّنَ الشَّیۡطٰنِ تَذَکَّرُوۡا فَاِذَا ہُمۡ مُّبْصِرُوۡنَ ﴿۲۰۱﴾ۚ
“Undoubtedly, those who fear Allah, when a thought of Satan touches them, become careful, at the same time their eyes are opened.”
When he remembered these words, he became so fearful of Allah azza wajal that he fell unconscious at the door-way of this house. When he was extremely delayed coming to his father, his father decided to go out and look for his son. He then asked a few people to help him carry his son home. When he regained consciousness, he revealed to his father what had happened. However, as he repeated the same verse, he fell unconscious again. After screaming out aloud in fear he passed away.
In the morning when the news reached Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar Radi Allahu ‘Anhu, he went to the house of this young man to sympathise with his old father. He also asked the old man why he had not called him so that he could also take part in the Janazah of this young man. However, the old man replied that he did not want to disturb the great Muslim. Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar Radi Allahu ‘Anhu then asked to be taken to the grave of this young man.
When he stood in front of the grave, he repeated the words of the 46th verse of Surah Rahman which was:
وَ لِمَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّہٖ جَنَّتَانِ ﴿ۚ۴۶﴾
“But for him who fears to stand before his Lord there are two Paradises.”
The minute he mentioned this verse, a voice was heard from the grave saying, “O Ameerul Mo’mineen! Without doubt, my Creator has blessed me with two Paradises.”
(Sharahus Sudoor, 213).
