Download PDF: The Tree of Hazrat Maryam and the Stream of Hazrat Jibreel – A Quranic Story
Hazrat ‘Isa – peace be upon Him – was born from Hazrat Maryam – may Allah be pleased with Her – without a father. When it was the time of giving birth, Hazrat Maryam – may Allah be pleased with Her – went out of the residency area and sat alone under a dry palm tree, and it was under this tree the birth of Hazrat ‘Isa – peace be upon Him – took place. Hence, he was born without a father therefore the virgin Hazrat Maryam – may Allah be pleased with Her – was worried about the blasphemy of people and did not enter the residential area due to this, and sat under a lonely palm tree where there was nothing to eat or drink.
All of a sudden Hazrat Jibreel – peace be upon Him – descended and kicked his heel onto the ground and a stream began to flow and in an instance, the dry palm tree turned green and bore ripe dates. Hazrat Jibreel – peace be upon Him – called Hazrat Maryam – may Allah be pleased with Her – and said to her:
فَنَادٰىہَا مِنۡ تَحْتِہَاۤ اَلَّا تَحْزَنِیۡ قَدْ جَعَلَ رَبُّکِ تَحْتَکِ سَرِیًّا ﴿۲۴﴾
Then one called from underneath her, grieve not undoubtedly, your Lord has caused to flow a rivulet below you.
وَ ہُزِّیۡۤ اِلَیۡکِ بِجِذْعِ النَّخْلَۃِ تُسٰقِطْ عَلَیۡکِ رُطَبًا جَنِیًّا ﴿۫۲۵﴾
And shake towards yourself holding the trunk of the palm tree, fresh and ripe dates will fall upon you.
(Maryam 19, Verse 24-26)
For a dry tree to bear fruits and for a stream to flow suddenly are undoubtedly the miracles of Hazrat Maryam – may Allah be pleased with Her.
Lesson:
As you have already studied earlier in the book that when Hazrat Maryam – may Allah be pleased with Her – was a child and worshipped in the arch of Bait Al-Maqdis the fruits of all seasons used to come to her without her having to make an effort but after the birth of Hazrat ‘Isa – peace be upon Him – although she was given the ripe dates to eat but Allah Almighty commanded her to shake the tree trunk in order to get the dates. This unfolds that when one does not have children he may earn his sustenance even without having to make an effort and he gets to fill his stomach by some means but when one has children then it is incumbent upon him to work for what he earns. When Hazrat Maryam – may Allah be pleased with Her – did not have a child she was delivered with abundance of fruits in the arch of worship without working for it but when her son Hazrat ‘Isa – peace be upon Him – was born then Allah’s command was to shake the tree trunk and make an effort and then only she got the dates.
And Allah Almighty Knows Best!
