Download PDF: Rights of the Holy Prophet – peace be upon him – Over the Ummah as Stated in the Quran
1st Right – To believe in him:
Yasin.
By the wise Quran.
No doubt, you.
Have been sent on straight path.
Sent down by the Dignified, the Merciful.
(Yaseen 36, Verse 1-5)
As Allah Almighty Himself declares and He Himself stated in an emphasizing manner that “No doubt, you have been sent (You are from the Messengers) on the straight path, sent down by the Dignified, the Merciful.” We all have to believe in him as a true Messenger of Allah.
Only to know him is not sufficient but one needs to believe in him in order to become a Muslim as he deserves to be believed, for he is the other half of the Kalimah Tayyibah and Shahhaadah, the most basic article of Islamic faith, and the secret of Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem.
We need to believe in him whole-heartedly giving him the due respect as he deserves. We must be wise enough to grasp that people who merely misinterpret the meaning of Rasool and regard him as a postman, are imposters wanting to steal his love and our faith from within our hearts. May Allah save us from having such corrupt views! Therefore, we rather need to trust Allah’s words and not pay heed to what anyone else has to say about the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him. So let us find out what are the dimensions of Islamic beliefs of Ahlus Sunnah regarding the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace blessings upon him.
Believing in His Vast Knowledge Bestowed Upon Him by Allah:
The Holy Quran states:
The Most Affectionate
Taught the Quran to His beloved.
He created Mohammad, the soul of humanity.
He taught him speech regarding whatever had already happened and whatever will happen.
(Al-Rahmaan 55, Verse 1-4)
Allah Almighty granted him the knowledge of everything – from the inception of the creation till the time of entry into paradise.
(Bukhari, Muslim)
Ones who do not give him due credibility and thus standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the hypocrites, there is a good news for them!
Undoubtedly, the hypocrites are in the lowest section of the Hell, and you shall never get any helper for them.
(Al-Nisa 4, 145)
Let us ask Allah Almighty, why they deserved this treatment:
And of them some are those who hurt the Communicator of the hidden news (The Prophet) and say, ‘he is an ear; say, ‘He is an ear for good of you, believes in Allah and believes the words of Muslims, and is a mercy for those who are Muslims among you.’ And those who hurt the Messenger of Allah, for them is the painful torment.
(Al-Taubah 9, Verse 61)
Even if he observed silence in some matter, it was a praiseworthy stance in Allah’s views and thus it should not be regarded as the lack of knowledge on his side. He chose less burden for us believers, therefore we must be thankful for his wisdom. The Holy Quran bears testimony:
Allah is not to leave the Muslims in the present state of affairs in which you are, until He separates unpure from the pure. And it is not befitting to the dignity of Allah that O general people! He let you know the unseen. Yes, Allah chooses from amongst His messengers whom He pleases. Then believe in Allah and His messengers. And if you accept faith and fear, then there is great reward for you.
(Aale ‘Imraan 3, Verse 179)
Allah Almighty had the intention to separate the impure from the pure and he had given the knowledge to his beloved to execute, and as a result of it, he threw out not one or two but 35 hypocrites from the Masjid on a Friday.
The Quran again emphasizes:
And O beloved! (Prophet) If there had not been the grace and mercy of Allah upon you, then some people of them had wished to defraud you. And they are misleading themselves only and they will not hurt you in anything. And Allah sent down to you the Book and Wisdom and has taught to you what you did not know, and great is the grace of Allah upon you.
(Al-Nisa 4, Verse 113)
To Believe in Him as The Best amongst Allah’s Creation in Every Aspect:
And undoubtedly, you possess excellent manners.
(Al-Qalam 68, Verse 4)
2nd Right – To Honor Him:
It is none other than our Creator Allah Almighty who taught us how to respect His Messenger – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – and the recommended extent we should go to:
And pay respect to him and honor him.
(Al-Fat’h 48, Verse 9)
Qaadi ‘Iyaaz Al-Maaliki – may Allah be pleased with him – stated when explaining the meaning of the first imperative word mentioned in the verse:
“Overstress and go beyond the norm when it comes to honoring him.”
The respect that was displayed by the beloved Sahaba was the respect that Allah Almighty expects from us as it is the Holy Prophet’s – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – right, as taught by Allah Almighty Himself; to whom? To the Sahaba, whose time was the best of time, for they also existed at the same time of their Master.
‘O believers! exceed not over Allah and his Messenger and fear Allah. Undoubtedly, Allah Hears, Knows
‘O believers! raise not your voices above the voice of the Communicator of unseen (the Prophet) and speak not aloud in presence of him as you shout to one another, lest your works become vain while you are unaware.
Undoubtedly, those who lower down their voices in the presence of the messenger of Allah, those are they whose hearts Allah has tested for piety. For them is forgiveness and great reward.
Undoubtedly, those who call you from behind your private apartments, most of them are stupid.
And if they had patience, until you yourself come out to them, that had been better for them. And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
(Al-Hujraat 49, Verse 1-5)
3rd Right – To Support His Mission:
Call to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good admonition and argue with them in a way that is best. No doubt, your Lord knows well who has strayed from His way and He knows well those who are guided.
(Al-Nahl 16, Verse 125)
It can be through many ways and means, both individually and collectively. For example, Imam Muhammad, the student of Imam Azam Abu Hanifah – may Allah be pleased with them – had written a book of Seerah. When a non-Muslim read the contents, he spoke up, “If this is the status of junior Muhammad what will be the status of Muahammad the Great!”
Every one of us must feel that responsibility and do Da’wah as per his capability, for we owe to the one through whom we are blessed with the great blessing of Islam.
4th Right – We Ought to Follow Him:
Those who will serve the Messenger, unlettered the Communicator of hidden news, when they will find with them written in the Taurat and Injeel. He will bid them to do good and will forbid them from doing evil, and will make lawful for them clean things and will forbid for them unclean things, and will take off from them that burden and shackles which were upon them. Then those who believe in him and honour him and help him and follow that light which has been sent down with him, they are the persons who attained their objects.
(Al-A’raaf 7, Verse 157)
Allah Almighty encourages us in the following manner and reminds us that our love for Allah is not true until it is done in conformity with the Sunnah of His beloved:
‘O beloved! Say you, ‘O people! If you love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you and forgive your sins and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
(Aale ‘Imraan 3, Verse 31)
The terrific result of this will be……….. let me say it again:
Allah will love you.
