Tafseer Ibn Jareer is greater than all the books of Tafseer.

(Al-Itqaan of Imam Jalaaluddeen Suyooti, Vol. 2, p. 190)

Imam Nawawi states:

“The entire Ummah is unanimous on the fact that there was no book written like Tafseer Ibn Jareer.

(Ibid)

About the Book:

Firstly, he does the Tafseer of the verses, and then supports it from the quotations of the Sahaba and Taabe’een with his full chain.  If there happens to occur any conflict between two or more different views regarding any verse, he provides evidences for each and every view with the quotations of the Sahaba and Taabe’een.  He does not only narrate the Tafseer quotes regarding the verses but also keeps a balance and does justice between different quotations.  He also indulges with technical aspects when necessary, and when he comes across a verse of Islamic law, he also derives Shariah laws from them.
