They ask you concerning the Hour; when it is destined to come?
But what you are to do with its mentioning?
Towards your Lord is its ultimate end.
You are only a warner to him who fears it.
It shall be as if, on the day when they will see it, they had not tarried in the world but an evening or the rising of the sun.
Tafsir al-Qurtubi
They ask you concerning the Hour; when it is destined to come?…
Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas – may Allah be pleased with them – said: The polytheists of Makkah Mukarramah asked the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him, “When will the Day of Judgment occur?” by way of ridicule, so Allah Almighty revealed this verse.

Tafsir al-Jalalain
They, that is, the disbelievers of Mekkah Mukarramah, ask you about the Hour: when will it set in?, when will it come to pass and when will it begin?
What have you to do with the mention of it?, in other words, you have no (personal) knowledge of it in order to mention it.
With your Lord it belongs ultimately, ultimate knowledge of it [lies with Him]; none other than Him has any knowledge of it.
You are only a warner for, your warning will only
benefit, the one who fears it.
The day they see it, it will be as if they had only tarried, in their graves, for an evening or the morning thereof, that is to say, [as if only] one evening of a day or its morning.
