The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – stated: Whoever wishes to ponder over the situations that are to occur on the Day of Judgment, he must study Surah Al-Takweer.

Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas – may Allah be pleased with them – said: Allah Almighty will roll up the sun, the moon and the stars into the ocean on the Day of Judgment. He will then send the wind to it which will strike it and it will erupt into fire.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah – may Allah be pleased with him – narrated that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – said: The sun and the moon will fade (their light) on the Day of Judgment.

When the stars fall off i.e. when they will drop from the sky and fall on the ground.

When the mountains are moved i.e. the mountains will be uprooted from the face of earth and will shatter into thin ashes.
And when the pregnant she camels are abandoned i.e. will be abandoned without a shepherd. Its owners will have abandoned it whereas they used to be after it all along (prior to this), for they never had an asset more valuable than this. When the chaos of doomsday will befall them, they (the Arabs) will abandon them as well.

Sayyiduna Abu ‘Aliyah narrated from Sayyiduna Ubai ibn Ka’b – may Allah be pleased with them – who said: There will be 6 signs prior to the Day of Judgment:
- People will be in the markets when the sun will lose its shine.
- They will stay in this situation while the stars will fall off.
- They will still be in the same state when the mountains will begin to fall on the ground, then it will shake and tremor.
- Then the jinns will run into humans and the humans into jinns in horror.
- The animals, birds and predators will gather together.
- When the seas are kindled.

And when the female who is buried alive is questioned i.e. the girl who had been buried alive, for the Arabs used to bury their daughters alive due to shame and the fear of poverty.

And when the scrolls are laid out i.e. when the scrolls of actions are laid out for accountability.

Then, at that time, every soul shall know what every soul has brought forth; the good thereof or the evil thereof. This is the concluding remark for the chain of verses from 1 to 13 that followed afterwards.
Tafsir al-Baghawi (Ma’aalim al-Tanzeel) of Muhiyy al-Sunnah Imam Abu Muhammad Al-Husain ibn Mas’ood al-Baghwi al-Shafe’I t D. 510 A.H.
Tafsir al-Qurtubi
Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with them – reported that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated: Whoever is keen on seeing me on the Day of Judgment then he must recite Surah Al-Takweer, Surah Al-Infitar and Surah Al-Inshiqaaq.
(Imam Tirmidhi) said: This Hadeeth is Hasan Ghareeb.

When the stars fall off.
Sayyiduna Abu Saleh narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas – may Allah be pleased with them: The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated: No star shall remain in the heaven on that day but will have fallen down onto the earth. Even the inhabitants of the 7th layer of the planet will be terrified due to what will have befallen the people on the top i.e. the earth’s surface.
When the mountains are moved i.e. uprooted from the ground and moved into the air, which is similar to the following statement of the Almighty:
And the Day We shall cause the mountains to move and you will see the earth clean open.
(Al-Kahf 18, Verse 47)
And when the seas are kindled i.e. filled with water.
Imam Qushayri – may Allah be pleased with him – said: It will happen when Allah Almighty will remove the barriers which He mentioned in His following statement:
And there is barriers in between them that one can not excel the other.
(Al-Rahman 55, Verse 20)
When those barriers are removed, the water of seas will merge and will cover the entire earth, and all the oceans will be merged into one.
When the souls are paired.
Sayyiduna No’man ibn Basheer – may Allah be pleased with him – reported that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated: Every person will be paired with the nation that used to behave like them.
Sayyiduna ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab – may Allah be pleased with him – said: The transgressor will be paired with the transgressor whereas the pious will be paired with the pious.
Sayyiduna Hasan – may Allah be pleased with him – said: Every person will be paired with the loved ones; jews with jews, christians with christians, fire worshippers with fire worshippers, and everyone who used to worship other things besides Allah will be paired with each other. The hypocrites will be paired with the hypocrites and believers with the believers.
Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – commented on this verse and said: Qais ibn ‘Asim came to the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – and said, “O Allah’s Messenger, indeed I have buried alive my eight daughters which I had in the time ignorance.” He said, “Then free each slave on behalf of each of the daughters.” He said, “O Allah’s Messenger, I only own camels.” He said, “Then sacrifice one for each daughter if you choose to do so.”
Sayyiduna Hasan – may Allah be pleased with him – said: Allah Almighty ordained to humiliate her murderer, for she had been killed without committing a single crime.
The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – is reported to have said: The woman who killed her daughter will come forward on the Day of Judgment with her daughter clung to her breasts, soaked in her own blood. She will then say, “Oh my Lord, this is my mother. She is the one who murdered me.”
And when the scrolls are laid out i.e. those books of deeds where the angels wrote down all the actions of its owner; both the good and bad and wrapped up at the time of death. They will be opened on the Day of Judgment. Hence, every human being will be made aware of their book of deed and he will get to know its contents then say:
What happened to this writing? It left neither any small sin nor a big sin that has not been encompassed,
(Al-Kahf 18, Verse 49)
Sayyidah Umme Salmah – may Allah be pleased with her – reports that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – said: People will be judged on the Day of Judgment in a state that they will be bare feet and naked. I (She) asked, “Then what about the women, ya RasoolAllah?” “People will be preoccupied, O Umme Salmah”, replied the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him. I asked, “What will keep them preoccupied?” He replied, “The opening of the books even with its tiniest detail as a mustard seed.”
i.e. when the hell be raged for the disbelievers and its heat will be raised.
Sayyiduna Qatadah – may Allah be pleased with him – said: Allah’s Anger and the errors of mankind will cause it to flare up.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah – may Allah be pleased with him – reported that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated: The hell will be set ablaze for a thousand years until it turns red, then it will be further burned until it turns white, and then it will be flared up even more until it turns black. This is the darkness of blackend hell.
i.e. the Paradise will be prepared and brought closer to the pious. Allah Almighty has stated:
And the Heaven shall be brought close to the dutiful.
(AL-Shu’ara 26, Verse 90)
It is mentioned in Sahih Muslim and Bukhari reported by Sayyiduna ‘Adi ibn Abi Hatim – may Allah be pleased with him – that the Messenger of Allah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated: Each one of you will be spoken to by his Lord, with no mediator between them. He will look in front of him and the fire will be facing him. He will look to his right and not see anything but something that he had sent on before. He will look to his left and will not see anything but something that he had sent on before. Whoever among you can save himself in Fire, even with half a date, should do so.

Tafsir Rooh al-Bayaan
Hadeeth: A believer is between two fears;
- He is fearful of the past life oblivious of what must have been committed by him which would make Allah Almighty angry
- Fearful of the life in future lest should he fail to comply with Allah’s commandments.
It is incumbent upon a wise person to prepare for himself in the world and capitalize for the hereafter and earn good deeds in his youth before the old age. For there will no excuse valid after death. There are only two options after death:
- Paradise
- Hell.
