اِذَا السَّمَآءُ انۡفَطَرَتْ ۙ﴿۱﴾

  When the heaven is cleft


 وَ اِذَا الْکَوَاکِبُ انۡتَثَرَتْ ۙ﴿۲﴾

  And when the stars fall off


 وَ اِذَا الْبِحَارُ فُجِّرَتْ ﴿ۙ۳﴾

  And when the seas are flown away,


 وَ اِذَا الْقُبُوۡرُ بُعْثِرَتْ ۙ﴿۴﴾

  And when the graves are scratched,


 عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ وَ اَخَّرَتْ ؕ﴿۵﴾

  Each soul shall then know what it has sent forth and what has been left behind.

Tafsir al-Qurtubi                                                                                                                                                                                      تفسیر القرطبی                                                    

إِذَا بَدَتْ هَذِهِ الْأُمُورُ مِنْ أَشْرَاطِ السَّاعَةِ خُتِمَتِ الْأَعْمَالُ فَعَلِمَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَا كَسَبَتْ، فَإِنَّهَا لَا يَنْفَعُهَا عَمَلٌ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ.

When these signs will of the last hour will begin to appear, the book of deeds will be sealed and then everyone will be certain of their account, for after that, no action will yield any benefit.

وَقِيلَ: أَيْ إِذَا كَانَتْ هَذِهِ الْأَشْيَاءُ قَامَتِ الْقِيَامَةُ، فَحُوسِبَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا عَمِلَتْ، وَأُوتِيَتْ كِتَابَهَا بِيَمِينِهَا أَوْ بِشِمَالِهَا، فَتَذَكَّرَتْ عِنْدَ قِرَاءَتِهِ جَمِيعَ أَعْمَالِهَا.

It is also said that when these signs become apparent it will the Day of Resurrection and everyone will be certain of their actions.  They will be handed over the books of their deeds either in their right of left hand (depending on their actions) and will recall all their actions when it be read for them.

Tafsir Rooh al-Bayaan                                                                                              تفسیر روح البیان                                                

وَإِذَا الْبِحارُ فُجِّرَتْ فتح بعضها الى بعض بزوال المانع وحصلول تزلزل الأرض وتصدعها واستوائها وصارت البحار وهى سبعة:

 بحرا واحدا۔

When the seas are flown away i.e. one will join the other devouring the gaps in between while the earth’s crust quakes and the following seven oceans will merge together and unite:

  1. Mediterranean sea
  2. Saqaliyah sea
  3. Caspian sea
  4. China sea
  5. Red sea
  6. Persian Gulf
  7. Indian Ocean.
