The day when the secrets shall be tested.
Then man shall have no strength, no helper.
Tafsir al-Baghawi
i.e. it will the Day of Judgment when the secrets will be tested and revealed.
Sayyiduna ‘Ata Ibn Rabah – may Allah be pleased with him – said: Those secrets are the duties of actions; such as Salah, fasting, Wudhu and Ghusl from impurity. Those are the secrets between the servants and Allah, for if the servant wanted, he could have said, “I fasted” when he actually did not, and said that he prayed but he never did or said that he had Ghusl but he did not. It will be broadcasted until it becomes clear as to who performed the duties and who did not.
i.e. the one who rejects the concept of revival does not have power to prevent Allah’s punishment neither does he have any helper against Allah.
Tafsir al-Baghawi (Ma’aalim al-Tanzeel) of Muhiyy al-Sunnah Imam Abu Muhammad Al-Husain ibn Mas’ood al-Baghwi al-Shafe’I t D. 510 A.H.
Tafsir al-Kabeer
Those secrets are the beliefs and intentions that are in the heart and the actions that are not visible to the naked eye.
A servant will not have any power on that Day nor will one have any helper i.e. He will have no power to repel the punishment from himself or any helper who would help him prevent it. Undoubtedly it is a warning and caution.
Tafsir al-Kabeer (Mafateeh al-Ghaib) of Imam Fakhruddin Muhammad ibn Umar al-Raazi al-Shafe’i t D. 606 A.H.
Tafsir al-Qurtubi
The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – is reported to have said: Allah Almighty entrusted his creation with four things:
- Salah
- Fasting
- Zakaat
- Ghusl (Obligatory bath)
These are the secrets which Allah Almighty will reveal on the Day of Judgment.
Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with them – narrated that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated: There are three thing that if one is punctual on them, he is truly a friend of Allah and who neglects them is a truly an enemy of Allah:
- Salah
- Fasting
- Ghusl from impurity.

Tafsir al-Jalalain
On the day when [all] secrets, the hidden convictions and intentions of the hearts, are inspected, [when] they are examined and revealed.
Whereat he, the one who denies resurrection, will have neither strength, to defend himself against chastisement, nor any helper, to avert it from him.
