وُجُوۡہٌ یَّوْمَئِذٍ خٰشِعَۃٌ ۙ﴿۲﴾

Many a face will be disgraced on that day.

Tafsir al-Tabari                                                         تفسیر الطبری                                

وَهِيَ وُجُوهُ أَهْلِ الْكُفْرِ بِهِ.

They will be the faces of disbelievers.

Tafsir Al-Tabari (Tafsir Ibn Jareer / Jame’ al-Bayaan fi Taweel al-Quraan) of Imam Abu Ja’far Muhammad ibn Jareer al-Tabri t D. 310 A.H.

Tafsir al-Matureedi                                         تفسیر الماتریدی                                

أي: ذليلة، وإنَّمَا خص الوجه بالذكر؛ لأن الحزن والسرور إذا استحكما في القلب أثرا في الوجه

i.e. they will be disgraced.  The reason as to why the face has been significantly mentioned is because the sorrow and happiness, when they touch the heart, its effect is visible on the face.

Tafsir al-Baghawi                                                     تفسیر البغوی                            

{وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ} يَعْنِي: يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ {خَاشِعَةٌ} ذَلِيلَةٌ.

Many a face will be disgraced (shamed) on that day (on the Day of Judgment).

Tafsir al-Jalalain                                                                                                                        تفسیر الجلالین                                                

{وُجُوه يَوْمئِذٍ} عَبَّرَ بِهَا عَنْ الذَّوَات فِي الْمَوْضِعَيْنِ {خَاشِعَة} ذَلِيلَة

Some faces on that day — they [faces] are used to represent the individuals in both instances — will be disgraced, humiliated.
