اِنَّ ہٰذَا لَفِی الصُّحُفِ الْاُوۡلٰی ﴿ۙ۱۸﴾

Indeed this is in the former scriptures.

Tafsir al-Kabeer                                                                                                             التفسیر الکبیر                        

۔۔۔جَمِيعُ السُّورَةِ، وَذَلِكَ لِأَنَّ السُّورَةَ مُشْتَمِلَةٌ عَلَى التَّوْحِيدِ وَالنُّبُوَّةِ وَالْوَعِيدِ عَلَى الْكُفْرِ بِاللَّهِ، وَالْوَعْدِ عَلَى طَاعَةِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى.  وَهَذِهِ أُمُورٌ لَا يَجُوزُ أَنْ تَخْتَلِفَ بِاخْتِلَافِ الشَّرَائِعِ، فَلِهَذَا السَّبَبِ قَالَ: إِنَّ هَذَا لَفِي الصُّحُفِ الْأُولى

There is an indication that the entire Surah is its objective, for this Surah consists of the concept of Tawheed (Allah’s Oneness), Prophethood, punishment upon rejecting Allah and promise upon the obedience of Allah Almighty.  These are the subjects that do not accept change although the Shariah (of different Ummahs) may have differed over many issues, and it is for this reason that the Almighty stated:  Indeed this is in the former scriptures.

رُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَمْ أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ مِنْ كِتَابٍ فَقَالَ: مِائَةً وَأَرْبَعَةَ كُتُبٍ؛

 عَلَى آدَمَ عَشْرَ صُحُفٍ

 وَعَلَى شِيثٍ خَمْسِينَ صَحِيفَةً

وَعَلَى إِدْرِيسَ ثَلَاثِينَ صَحِيفَةً

 وَعَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَشْرَ صَحَائِفَ

 وَالتَّوْرَاةَ

وَالْإِنْجِيلَ

وَالزَّبُورَ

وَالْفَرْقَانَ

Sayyiduna Abu Dhar – may Allah be pleased with him – reports that he asked the Messenger of Allah – may Allah be pleased with him, “How many scriptures did Allah Almighty reveal?”  He replied, “One hundred and four books;

10 upon Sayyiduna Adam – peace be upon him

50 upon Sayyiduna Sheeth – peace be upon him

30 upon Sayyiduna Idrees – peace be upon him

10 upon Sayyiduna Ibrahim – peace be upon him
