And who remembered the name of his Lord, then offered prayer.

Tafsir al-Kabeer

There are three levels of the actions of a responsible Muslim:

  1. Freeing the heart from corrupt beliefs

This is the objective of “purification” in the previous verse.

  • Presence of Allah’s recognition along with the knowledge of His Divine Being, His Divine Attributes and His Sacred Names

This is the objective of “And who remembered the name of his Lord”, for the remembrance of Allah can only be achieved in the heart by the virtue of Allah’s recognition.

  • Devoting in His service.

This is the objective of “then offered prayer”, for the Salah is an act of utmost humility and devotion.

Tafsir al-Jalalain

And remembered the Name of his Lord, saying Allahu Akbar i.e. Allah is the Greatest, and prays, the five prayers — and such are the concerns of [one working towards] the Hereafter, [concerns] which the Makkan disbelievers shun.

Tafsir al-Jalalain of Imam Jalaaluddin Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Mahalli al-Shafe’i t D. 864 A.H. and Imam Jalaaluddin Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr al-Suyooti al-Shafe’i t D. 911 A.H.
