Does man think that no one saw him?

Does he think i.e. does he assume, that no one saw him i.e. that no one witnessed him, whereas Allah Almighty certainly has the knowledge of it.  It is thus established that he lied in his statement “I destroyed vast wealth” while, in reality, he did not spend the wealth.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah – may Allah be pleased with him – narrated and said:  The servant will be confronted and asked, “What did you do with the wealth We granted you?”  He will say, “I spent it and I took out its Zakaat.”  It will then be said to him, “So you did this so people will call you a generous person, then it’s already said.”  He will then be commanded to be thrown in hell.

Sayyiduna Sa’eed narrated from Sayyiduna Qatadah – may Allah be pleased with them:  You will certainly be questioned about your wealth; from where did you earn it and how did you spend it?

Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas – may Allah be pleased with them – is reported to have said:  Abu al-Ashaddain used to say, “I have spent a generous sum of money in the enmity of Muhammad (may Allah send peace and blessings upon him) and he was lying about it.”

Sayyiduna Muqatil – may Allah be pleased with him – said:  It was revealed about Harith ibn ‘Amir ibn Naufal that he committed sin and enquired the beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – about it, so he commanded him to take out expiation.  He said, “My funds have been exhausted by giving away expiations and expenses since I entered the religion of Muhammad (may Allah send peace and blessings upon him).”

Tafsir al-Jalalain

Does he suppose that no one saw him?, with regard to what he has spent, to know the amount thereof; Allah knows the amount; but it is not

[in reality that much so as]

to be considered a great amount, and [in any case] He will requite him for his evil conduct.

Hadeeth:

The feet of a servant will not stay firm on the Day of Judgment until he is questioned regarding the following four:

  1. How he spent his life
  2. From where he earned his wealth and what he spent it for
  3. About his actions that he committed (whether good or bad)
  4. About the love for Ahle Bayt.
