Therefore do not oppress the orphan.

Tafsir al-Baghawi

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah – may Allah be pleased with him – reported that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated:  The best of houses among the Muslims is the one in which there is an orphan and he is treated well there and the worst of houses among the Muslims is the one where there is an orphan and he is ill-treated there.  He then said pointing with his two fingers (joined together), “I and the caretaker of an orphan are in paradise.”

The Hadeeth is narrated that it was revealed at the time when the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – had shouted the child of Sayyidah Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her.

Sayyiduna Anas – may Allah be pleased with him – reported that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated:  When an orphan cries, his tears fall onto the palm of the Most Compassionate (Allah Almighty) and He says, “Who has made this orphan cry whose father I have buried in the sand?  One who provides for him there is Paradise for him.”

Tafsir al-Qurtubi

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah – may Allah be pleased with him – reported that a man complained to the Holy Prophet -may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – about the cruelty of his heart, so he stated, “If you wish that your heart softens then place your hand over the head of an orphan and feed the poor.”

It is mentioned in Sahih Hadeeth from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah – may Allah be pleased with him – that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated, “I and the caretaker of an orphan will be like these two.” And indicated towards his index and middle fingers (joined).
