وَ وَجَدَکَ عَآئِلًا فَاَغْنٰی ؕ﴿۸﴾

And found you in need, so made you prosperous?

Tafsir al-Kabeer                                                                                                 التفسیر الکبیر                        

أَنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى أَغْنَاهُ بِتَرْبِيَةِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ

 وَلَمَّا اخْتَلَّتْ أَحْوَالُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ أَغْنَاهُ [اللَّهُ] بِمَالِ خَدِيجَةَ

 وَلَمَّا اخْتَلَّ ذَلِكَ أَغْنَاهُ [اللَّهُ] بِمَالِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ

 وَلَمَّا اخْتَلَّ ذَلِكَ أَمَرَهُ بِالْهِجْرَةِ وَأَغْنَاهُ بِإِعَانَةِ الْأَنْصَارِ

 ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُ بِالْجِهَادِ وَأَغْنَاهُ بِالْغَنَائِمِ

Indeed Allah Almighty made him prosperous through the upbringing of Abu Talib.

When the situation of Abu Talib became dire Allah Almighty made him prosperous through the wealth of Sayyidah Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her.

After that He made him prosperous through the wealth of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him.

Thereafter He commanded him to migrate and made him prosperous through the help of Ansar (of Madinah Munawwarah).

Then He commanded him to strive through war and made him prosperous through war-booty.

Tafsir al-Jalalain                                                                                                                        تفسیر الجلالین                                                

{وَوَجَدَك عَائِلًا} فَقِيرًا {فَأَغْنَى} أَغْنَاك بِمَا قَنَّعَك بِهِ مِنْ الْغَنِيمَة وَغَيْرهَا وَفِي الْحَدِيث لَيْسَ الْغِنَى عَنْ كَثْرَة الْعَرَض وَلَكِنَّ الْغِنَى غِنَى النفس

And did He not find you in need i.e. poor, and made you prosperous? i.e. made you content with the spoils and other things which He gave you — in a Hadeeth it is stated: ‘Wealth comes not from the proliferation of transient [worldly] goods, but wealth comes from the contentedness of the soul’.
