And indeed your Lord will soon give you so much that you will be pleased. (Allah seeks to please the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.)

Tafsir al-Tabari

Sayyiduna Ali, the son of Abdullah ibn Abbas, narrated from his father – may Allah be pleased with them, he said: “The Messenger of Allah – peace and blessings of Allah be upon him – has been granted (in this verse) what is to be offered to his nation after him, each and everything, it all has been mentioned in this enclosure, so Allah Almighty revealed this verse [Al-Dhuha: 5] that He has granted him a thousand mansions in paradise, and in every mansion, suitable husbands/wives and servants.

Tafsir al-Baghawi

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas – may Allah be pleased with them:  It is his intercession for his nation till he is pleased.  It is also the view of Sayyiduna ‘Ali and Hasan – may Allah be pleased with them.

This Hadeeth has reached us via Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘Aas – may Allah be pleased with them – that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated, “O Allah, my Ummah! my Ummah!” and cried.  Allah Almighty then stated, “O Jibreel, go to Muhammad and tell him, ‘Soon, We shall definitely please you about your Ummah and We will not sadden you about them’.”

Sayyiduna Harb ibn Shuraih said:  I heard Abu Ja’fer Muhammad ibn ‘Ali (Imam Baqir) – may Allah be pleased with them – saying, “O the people of Iraq, you say that the most hopeful verse of the Holy Quran is:

Say you, ‘O My bondmen who have committed excesses against their own souls ‘despair not of the mercy of Allah’ Undoubtedly, Allah forgives all sins, Verily He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.

(Al-Zumar 39, Verse 53)

But we, the Ahle Bayt, say that the most hopeful verse in the Devine Book of Allah is:

And indeed your Lord will soon give you so much that you will be pleased. (Allah seeks to please the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.)

(Al-Dhuha 93, Verse 5)

Tafsir al-Baghawi (Ma’aalim al-Tanzeel) of Muhiyy al-Sunnah Imam Abu Muhammad Al-Husain ibn Mas’ood al-Baghwi al-Shafe’I t D. 510 A.H.

Tafsir al-Kabeer

The Hadeeth of the beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – is narrated that he stated when this verse was revealed:  I will not be pleased even if my one Ummati is in hell.

There are numerous Ahadeeth mentioned with regards to the intercession which prove that the pleasure of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – indeed lies in the forgiveness of the sinners.  This verse proves that the Almighty will do everything that will please the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – so this is the conclusion of the concept of intercession derived from the whole verse as well as the narrations.

Imam Ja’fer Sadiq – may Allah be pleased with him – is reported to have said:  The pleasure of my grandfather lies in the fact that none of the monotheists (who only believe in One Allah) will enter hell.

(On the Day of Judgment) The Prophets – peace be upon them – will say, “(I am concerned about) myself! (I am concerned about) myself!” i.e. they will be judged according to their virtues prior to their nations, whereas the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – will say, “My Ummah! My Ummah!” i.e. beginning with them, for his pleasures lies only in seeing them attaining success through their virtues.

Tafsir al-Qurtubi

Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas – may Allah be pleased with him – is reported to have said:  The pleasure of Sayyiduna Muhammad – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – lies in the fact that none of his Ahle Bayt will enter hell.

It is mentioned in Sahih Muslim narrated by Sayyiduna ‘Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn Al-‘Aas – may Allah be pleased with them – that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – recited the statement of Allah Almighty about Sayyiduna Ibrahim (who said the following to Allah Almighty):

Then who sided with me is mine and who disobeyed me, then you are certainly Forgiving, Merciful.

(Ibrahim 14, Verse 36)

And the following words of Sayyiduna ‘Isa – peace be upon him:

If You punish them, they are Your bondmen.

(Al-Ma’idah 5, Verse 118)

He then raised his hands and said, “O Allah, my Ummah! My Ummah!” and cried, so Allah Almighty said to Sayyiduna Jibreel – peace be upon him, “O Jibreel, go to Muhammad and tell him, ‘Indeed Allah Almighty says to you, Soon, We shall definitely please you about your Ummah and We will not sadden you about them’.”

Tafsir al-Durr al-Manthoor

Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas – may Allah be pleased with them – commented on this verse and said:  His pleasure lies in the fact that everyone of his Ummah enters paradise.

(Bayhaqi in Shu’ab al-Iman)

Sayyiduna Harb ibn Shuraih – may Allah be pleased with him –reported:  I said to Abu Ja’fer Muhammad ibn ‘Ali ibn Husain – may Allah be pleased with them, “What is your opinion about this intercession under discussion?  Do the people of Iraq deserve it?”  He replied, “Yes, I swear by Allah!  My uncle Sayyiduna Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah narrated the Hadeeth from Sayyiduna ‘Ali – may Allah be pleased with them – that the Messenger of Allah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated:  I will intercede for my Ummah until my Lord calls me, “Are you pleased, O Muhammad?”  I will then respond, “Yes, my Lord, I am pleased.”

(Ibn Mardawaih, Abu Nu’aim in Hilyah)

وَأخرج ابْن أبي شيبَة عَن ابْن مَسْعُود رَضِي الله عَنهُ قَالَ رَسُول الله صلى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسلم: إِنَّا أهل بَيت اخْتَار الله لنا الْآخِرَة على الدُّنْيَا {ولسوف يعطيك رَبك فترضى}

Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ood – may Allah be pleased with him – reported that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated:  Allah Almighty has chosen the hereafter for us, the Ahle Bayt, over the world:

And indeed your Lord will soon give you so much that you will be pleased. (Allah seeks to please the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.)

(Al-Dhuha 93, Verse 5)

(Ibn Abi Shaibah)

وَأخرج العسكري فِي المواعظ وَابْن مرْدَوَيْه وَابْن لال وَابْن النجار عَن جَابر بن عبد الله قَالَ: دخل رَسُول الله صلى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسلم على فَاطِمَة وَهِي تطحن بالرحى وَعَلَيْهَا كسَاء من حَملَة الإِبل فَلَمَّا نظر إِلَيْهَا قَالَ: يَا فَاطِمَة تعجلِي فتجرعي مرَارَة الدُّنْيَا لنعيم الْآخِرَة غَدا فَأنْزل الله {ولسوف يعطيك رَبك فترضى}

Sayyiduna Jabir ibn ‘Abdullah – may Allah be pleased with him – is reported to have said:  The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – visited Sayyidah Fatimah – may Allah be pleased with her – while she was grinding something with the handmill.  She had a blanket on made of camel-wool.  When the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – saw her, he stated, “O Fatimah, hurry up, bear the worldly hardship for the bounties of the hereafter tomorrow, for Allah Almighty has revealed:

And indeed your Lord will soon give you so much that you will be pleased. (Allah seeks to please the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.)
