وَ لَلْاٰخِرَۃُ خَیۡرٌ لَّکَ مِنَ الْاُوۡلٰی ؕ﴿۴﴾

And indeed the latter is better for you than the former.

Tafsir al-Tabari                                                             تفسیر الطبری                                

وَلَلدَّارُ الْآخِرَةُ، وَمَا أَعَدَّ اللَّهُ لَكَ فِيهَا، خَيْرٌ لَكَ مِنَ الدَّارِ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا؛ يَقُولُ: فَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَى مَا فَاتَكَ مِنْهَا، فَإِنَّ الَّذِي لَكَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ لَكَ مِنْهَا

Indeed the eternal abode of the hereafter, the one Allah Almighty has prepared for you, is much better than the worldly abode and its contents.  As if Allah Almighty states:  Do not grieve over what you have lost in it, for the things Allah Almighty has for you by Him is better for your than that.

Tafsir Al-Tabari (Tafsir Ibn Jareer / Jame’ al-Bayaan fi Taweel al-Quraan) of Imam Abu Ja’far Muhammad ibn Jareer al-Tabri t D. 310 A.H.

Tafsir al-Baghawi                                                        تفسیر البغوی                            

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِنَّا أَهْلُ بَيْتٍ اخْتَارَ اللَّهُ لَنَا الْآخِرَةَ عَلَى الدُّنْيَا

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah – may Allah be pleased with him – reported that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated:  Indeed Allah Almighty has chosen the hereafter over the world for us, the Ahle Bayt.

Tafsir al-Kabeer                                                                                                 التفسیر الکبیر                        

السُّؤَالُ: بِأَيِّ طَرِيقٍ يُعْرَفُ أَنَّ الْآخِرَةَ كَانَتْ لَهُ خَيْرًا مِنَ الْأُولَى

الْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لَكَ يَجْتَمِعُ عِنْدَكَ أُمَّتُكَ إِذِ الْأُمَّةُ لَهُ كَالْأَوْلَادِ قَالَ تَعَالَى:

وَأَزْواجُهُ أُمَّهاتُهُمْ [الْأَحْزَابِ:6[

وَهُوَ أَبٌ لَهُمْ، وَأُمَّتُهُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ فَيَكُونُ كَأَنَّ أَوْلَادَهُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ، ثُمَّ سَمَّى الْوَلَدَ قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ، حَيْثُ حَكَى عَنْهُمْ:

هَبْ لَنا مِنْ أَزْواجِنا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ [الْفُرْقَانِ: 74]

Question:       In which way is the hereafter better for him than the former one?

Answer:          (One of the reasons) the hereafter is better for you is that your Ummah will be close to you, for they are like his children, hence the Almighty states:

وَأَزْواجُهُ أُمَّهاتُهُمْ [الْأَحْزَابِ:6[

And his wives are their mothers.

(Al-Ahzab 33, Verse 6)

And the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – is their father, and being with his Ummah in paradise will be like his children are in paradise.  Allah Almighty has mentioned the children to be the coolness of parents’ eyes, thus He has mentioned:

هَبْ لَنا مِنْ أَزْواجِنا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ [الْفُرْقَانِ: 74]

  Grant us from our wives and offspring, the coolness of eyes.

(Al-Furqan 25, Verse 74)
