It will be kept far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph Abu Bakr Siddiq)

Tafsir al-Kabeer

The exegetists have formed consensus on the fact that the objective of this verse is indeed Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him.

Note:  The shias deny this narration.

Tafsir al-Qurtubi

Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas – may Allah be pleased with him – said:  It is Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him.

Tafsir Qurtubi (Al-Jame’ Li Ahkaam al-Quran) Imam Shamsuddin Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Qurtubi t D. 671 A.H.

Tafsir al-Nasafi

It will be kept far away from the most pious (believer).

It is also said that the verse was revealed to show a comparison between the two greatest examples of polytheists and believers and to signify their position.  It was “Most wicket” (for abu jahl) and made him the most suitable member for hell, as if it was created for his sake alone, and then stated “The most pious” (Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddeeq – may Allah be pleased with him) and specified the salvation for him as if the paradise was created for him alone; and those two individuals are abu jahl and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddeeq – may Allah be pleased him.

Tafsir al-Nasafi (Madarik al-Tanzeel) of Imam Abul Barakaat Abdullah ibn Ahmed al-Nasafi t D. 710 A.H.
