And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree,

Tafsir al-Baghawi

This Hadeeth has been narrated by Sayyiduna ‘Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated:  no soul has been created except that it has its place written for him either in Paradise or in the hell-fire, and also has his happy or miserable fate (in the Hereafter) written for him.” A man said, “O Allah’s Messenger (may Allah send peace and blessings upon him), shall we depend upon what is written for us and give up doing (good) deeds? For whoever among us is destined to be fortunate (in the Hereafter), will join the fortunate people and whoever among us is destined to be miserable will do such deeds as are characteristic of the people who are destined to misery.” The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – said, “Those who are destined to be happy (in the Hereafter) will find it easy and pleasant to do the deeds characteristic of those destined for happiness, while those who are to be among the miserable ones (in the Hereafter), will find it easy to do the deeds as per the characteristic of those destined to misery.” Then he recited:

So for one who gave and practised piety

And believed the best matter to be true

So We will very soon provide him ease.

And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree,

And denied the best matter,

So We will very soon provide him hardship.

Tafsir al-Jalalain

But as for him who hoarded wealth, that is due to Allah, and deems himself self-sufficient, without the need for His reward.
