وَ طُوۡرِ سِیۡنِیۡنَ ۙ﴿۲﴾

And by oath of Mount Sinai,

Tafsir al-Qurtubi                                                                                                                         تفسیر القرطبی                                                    

عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ وَطُورِ قَالَ: جَبَلٌ. سِينِينَ قَالَ: مُبَارَكٌ بِالسُّرْيَانِيَّةِ.

Sayyiduna Mujahid – may Allah be pleased with him – is reported to have said:  Toor means mountain and Sinai or Seeneen means “blessed” in Syriac.

وَعَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ قَالَ: الْجَبَلُ الَّذِي نَادَى اللَّهُ جَلَّ ثَنَاؤُهُ مِنْهُ مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ.

Sayyiduna ‘Ikramah – may Allah be pleased with him – is reported to have said:  It is the mountain from where Allah Almighty had a dialogue with Sayyiduna Moosa had – peace be upon him.

Tafsir al-Jalalain                                                                                                                        تفسیر الجلالین                                                

{وَطُور سِينِينَ} الْجَبَل الَّذِي كَلَّمَ اللَّه تَعَالَى عَلَيْهِ مُوسَى وَمَعْنَى سِينِينَ الْمُبَارَك أَوْ الْحَسَن بِالْأَشْجَارِ الْمُثْمِرَة

And by the Mount Sinai, the mountain on which Allah, exalted be He, spoke to Sayyiduna Moosa – peace be upon him – (Seeneen means ‘blessed’ or ‘beautiful with laden trees’),
