وَ مَا تَفَرَّقَ الَّذِیۡنَ اُوۡتُوا الْکِتٰبَ اِلَّا مِنۡۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَتْہُمُ الْبَیِّنَۃُ ؕ﴿۴﴾

Nor did the People of the Book(s) get divided until after the clear proof came to them.

Tafsir al-Tabari                                                             تفسیر الطبری                                

وَمَا تَفَرَّقَ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى فِي أَمْرِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَكَذَّبُوا بِهِ، إِلَّا مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَتْهُمُ الْبَيِّنَةُ، يَعْنِي: مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَتْ هَؤُلَاءِ الْيَهُودَ وَالنَّصَارَى {الْبَيِّنَةُ} [البينة: 1] يَعْنِي. بَيَانَ أَمْرِ مُحَمَّدٍ، أَنَّهُ رَسُولٌ بِإِرْسَالِ اللَّهِ إِيَّاهُ إِلَى خَلْقِهِ؛ يَقُولُ: فَلَمَّا بَعَثَهُ اللَّهُ تَفَرَّقُوا فِيهِ، فَكَذَّبَ بِهِ بَعْضُهُمْ، وَآمَنَ بَعْضُهُمْ، وَقَدْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ أَنْ يُبْعَثَ غَيْرَ مُفْتَرِقِينَ فِيهِ أَنَّهُ نَبِيٌّ

The jews and Christians were not divided about the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – but they falsified him only after came to them i.e. to the jews and Christians, the clear proof i.e. the Holy Prophet Muhammad – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – that he is indeed the Messenger of Allah appointed by Allah upon His creation.  Allah Almighty states that when Allah appointed him, they became divided about it, so some of them did not believe in him and some did whereas they were unanimously of the opinion that he is a Prophet prior to his appointment.

{وَمَا تَفَرَّقَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَاب} فِي الْإِيمَان بِهِ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ {إِلَّا مِنْ بَعْد مَا جَاءَتْهُمْ الْبَيِّنَة} أَيْ هُوَ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ الْقُرْآن الْجَائِي بِهِ مُعْجِزَة لَهُ وَقَبْل مَجِيئِهِ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانُوا مُجْتَمِعِينَ عَلَى الْإِيمَان بِهِ إِذَا جَاءَهُ فَحَسَدَهُ مَنْ كَفَرَ بِهِ مِنْهُمْ

And those who were given the Scripture did not become divided, regarding their belief in him [the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him] except after the clear proof had come to them i.e. the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him — or the Quran which he brought as his miracle. Before his arrival, they had all agreed to believe in him when he would come; then those who disbelieved in him from amongst them became envious of him.
