And the earth throws out its burdens.
Tafsir al-Tabari
Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas – may Allah be pleased with them – has commented on the verse: It means the corpses.

Tafsir al-Matureedi
All its contents; from the first corpses that were buried in it and everything else; the animals and other objects. to the last thing, all its treasures etc.

Tafsir al-Baghawi
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah – may Allah be pleased with him – reported that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated: The earth will vomit fragments of its burden; like the columns of gold and silver, and a murderer will come and say: It was for the sake of this that I committed murder. The breaker of family ties will come and say: It was for this that I broke the family ties; and the thief will come and say: It is for this that my hands were cut off. They will then leave it and will not take anything out of it.
Tafsir al-Baghawi (Ma’aalim al-Tanzeel) of Muhiyy al-Sunnah Imam Abu Muhammad Al-Husain ibn Mas’ood al-Baghwi al-Shafe’I t D. 510 A.H.
Tafsir al-Kabeer
i.e. this verse refers to the first earthquake of the doomsday. The earth will throw out its burdens; all its treasures then the surface of earth will be filled with gold but no one will have desire for it; as if the gold will be screaming, “Didn’t you ruin your world and the hereafter for my sake?!”
This verse could also refer to the second earthquake of the doomsday which will occur after the Qiyamah. It will take out the burdens i.e. the dead back to life like a mother gives birth to a living child.
Tafsir al-Kabeer (Mafateeh al-Ghaib) of Imam Fakhruddin Muhammad ibn Umar al-Raazi al-Shafe’i t D. 606 A.H.
Tafsir al-Jalalain
i.e. its hidden treasures and its dead, casting them onto its surface.
