الْقَارِعَةُ

The event that terrifies the hearts!

Tafsir al-Tabari                                                         تفسیر الطبری                                

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، فِي قَوْلِهِ:{الْقَارِعَةُ} [القارعة: 1] «مِنْ أَسْمَاءِ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ، عَظَّمَهُ اللَّهُ وَحَذَّرَهُ عِبَادَهُ»

Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas – may Allah be pleased with him – is reported to have commented on the verse:  Al-Qari’ah is one of the names of the Day of Judgment.  Allah Almighty signified it and warned His servants about it.

Tafsir al-Baghawi                                                     تفسیر البغوی                            

اسْمٌ مِنْ أَسْمَاءِ الْقِيَامَةِ لِأَنَّهَا تَقْرَعُ الْقُلُوبَ بِالْفَزَعِ.

It is one of the names of the Judgment Day, for it terrifies the hearts in dismay.

أَيِ الْقِيَامَةُ وَالسَّاعَةُ، كَذَا قَالَ عَامَّةُ الْمُفَسِّرِينَ.

i.e. the Day of Judgment, which is the interpretation of all exegetists in general.

{الْقَارِعَة} الْقِيَامَة الَّتِي تَقْرَع الْقُلُوب بِأَهْوَالِهَا

i.e. the Day of Judgment which terrifies the hearts with its terror.

Majority of exegetists viewed it as the Day of Judgment itself.
