نَارُ اللہِ الْمُوۡقَدَۃُ ۙ﴿۶﴾

The fire of Allah, that is ablaze.

 

Tafsir al-Kabeer                                                                                                 التفسیر الکبیر

أَمَّا قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: نارُ اللَّهِ فَالْإِضَافَةُ لِلتَّفْخِيمِ أَيْ هِيَ نَارٌ لَا كَسَائِرِ النِّيرَانِ الْمُوقَدَةُ الَّتِي لَا تَخْمَدُ أَبَدًا

Allah’s statement “The fire of Allah” is to place emphasis i.e. it is a fire unlike any other which is set ablaze never to be extinguished.

 

قَوْلُ عَلِيٍّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ: عَجَبًا مِمَّنْ يَعْصِي اللَّهَ عَلَى وَجْهِ الْأَرْضِ وَالنَّارُ تُسَعَّرُ مِنْ تَحْتِهِ

In the words of Sayyiduna ‘Ali – may Allah be pleased with him:  It is astonishing to see one disobeying Allah on the face of earth while the fire is ablaze beneath it. (i.e. the core of earth is lava)

 

وَفِي الْحَدِيثِ: «أُوقِدَ عَلَيْهَا أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ حَتَّى احْمَرَّتْ، ثُمَّ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ حَتَّى ابْيَضَّتْ، ثُمَّ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ حَتَّى اسْوَدَّتْ فَهِيَ الْآنَ سَوْدَاءُ مُظْلِمَةٌ»

It is mentioned in Hadeeth:  It is set alight for a thousand years until it turns red, then for another thousand years until it turns white, and then for another thousand years until it darkens, and by then, it turns pitch dark.

Tafsir al-Qurtubi                                                                                                                         تفسیر القرطبی

أَيِ الَّتِي أُوقِدَ عَلَيْهَا أَلْفَ عَامٍ، وَأَلْفَ عَامٍ، وَأَلْفَ عَامٍ، فَهِيَ غَيْرُ خَامِدَةٍ، أَعَدَّهَا اللَّهُ لِلْعُصَاةِ.

i.e. the fire which is set alight for three cycles of thousand years not to be extinguished.  Allah Almighty has prepared it for the disobedient.
