أَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ كَيْدَهُمْ فِي تَضْلِيلٍ ﴿٢﴾

Did He not put their scheme into ruin?

 

Tafsir al-Tabari                                                             تفسیر الطبری

أَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ سَعْيَ الْحَبَشَةِ أَصْحَابِ الْفِيلِ فِي تَخْرِيبِ الْكَعْبَةِ {فِي تَضْلِيلٍ} [الفيل: 2]

Did he not put the conspiracy of Abyssinians (the people of the elephant) to destroy the Holy Ka’bah, into ruin?

Tafsir al-Baghawi                                                        تفسیر البغوی

يَعْنِي مَكْرَهُمْ وَسَعْيَهُمْ فِي تَخْرِيبِ الْكَعْبَةِ.

i.e. He put their scheme and conspiracy to destroy the Holy Ka’bah into ruin.

Tafsir al-Kabeer                                                                                                 التفسیر الکبیر

فَضَلَّلَ كَيْدَهُمْ بِإِيقَاعِ الْحَرِيقِ فِيهِ، ثُمَّ كَادُوهُ ثَانِيًا بِإِرَادَةِ هَدْمِهِ فَضَلَّلَ بِإِرْسَالِ الطَّيْرِ عَلَيْهِمْ

He put their scheme into ruin by setting fire among them, and when they conspired to destroy the Holy Ka’bah for the second time, He destroyed them by sending the (Ababeel) birds upon them.

Tafsir al-Qurtubi                                                                                                                         تفسیر القرطبی

لِأَنَّهُمْ أَرَادُوا أَنْ يَكِيدُوا قُرَيْشًا بِالْقَتْلِ وَالسَّبْيِ، وَالْبَيْتَ بِالتَّخْرِيبِ وَالْهَدْمِ. فَحُكِيَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ أَنَّهُ بَعَثَ ابْنَهُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ عَلَى فَرَسٍ لَهُ، يَنْظُرُ مَا لَقُوا مِنْ تِلْكَ الطَّيْرِ، فَإِذَا الْقَوْمُ مُشَدَّخِينَ جَمِيعًاز۔۔۔فَلَمَّا رَأَى ذَلِكَ أَبُوهُ قَالَ: إِنَّ ابْنِي هَذَا أَفْرَسُ الْعَرَبِ. فَلَمَّا دَنَا مِنْ نَادِيهِمْ بِحَيْثُ يُسْمِعُهُمُ الصَّوْتَ، قَالُوا: مَا وَرَاءَكَ قَالَ: هَلَكُوا جَمِيعًا.

For they had plotted the assassinating of Quraish and destruction of the Holy Ka’bah.

It is narrated that Sayyiduna Abdul Muttalib – may Allah be pleased with him – sent his son Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah (the beloved father of our Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him) – may Allah be pleased with him – on a horse to find out about what the birds did.  When he reached there, he saw that all of them were scattered in pieces.  When his father saw him returning, he said, “This son of mine is the best horse rider in the entire Arab.”  When he got closer to them at the distance where people could hear him, they asked, “What is behind you? i.e. what transpired there?”  He replied, “They all got perished.”

Tafsir al-Jalalain                                                                                                                        تفسیر الجلالین

{أَلَمْ يَجْعَل} أَيْ جَعَلَ {كَيْدهمْ} فِي هَدْم الْكَعْبَة {فِي تَضْلِيل} خَسَارَة وَهَلَاك

Did He not put their scheme – of destroying the Holy Ka’bah – into ruin by perishing them?
